African American Voices

授業の目標（講義概要）

In this course, we will study African-American Literature from literary as well as social perspectives.

授業計画

Starting with a brief introduction to African-American history, this course will then examine how the voices of an enslaved people were represented in literature. Through examining African-American novelists of the 19th and 20th centuries, the students will come to an understanding of the severe conditions that had to be overcome in reality before black Americans were able to find their own voice.

評価方法

Grades will be based on attendance, participation in discussions, homework, and two end-of-semester reports. Students should be prepared for extensive reading assignments.
