授業の目標(講義概要) |
This course has been designed to help students to prepare for their study abroad experience in Britain. The class has the following objectives: 1. To prepare students to cope in an English-speaking homestay environment. 2. To introduce them to various aspects of living in Briatin. 3. To introduce the two cities of London and Edinburgh, where they will live, and also other places of interest. 4. To furnish them with survival and emergency English skills. 5. To help them with their preparations for studying abroad. The students will also have weekly reading assignments. |
授業計画 |
30 minutes of each class will be spent on language skills, one aspect of British life, and one other aspect of your study abroad. The classes will follow this outline: 1. Preparing to leave Japan; comparing Japan and Britain; British geography and history. 2. Airplane announcements and immigration; transportation and getting around; London. 3. Meeting your host family; some differences between British people and Japanese people; Edinburgh. 4. Giving gifts; placement tests and your university courses; British and overseas students. 5. A short tour of the house; British houses; the pub. 6. Introducing your family; the British family; lifestyles. 7. At breakfast, at dinner; British food; the immigrant population and cosmopolitan eating out in Britain. 8. At the supermarket; the cost of living in Britain; how to spend your leisure time cheaply. 9. Getting permission and asking favours; going out in Britain; short introduction to some other towns in Britain. 10. Making an overseas call; the arts in Britain; keeping in touch with home and Baika. 11. Talking about Japan; the ECC; going to continental Europe. 12. At the post office, at the bank; British money, travellers cheques, credit cards; insurance. 13. If you are sick; personal safety in Britain; culture shock and homesickness and what to do about them. 14. Going home;preparing to return from Briatin; assignments back in Japan. 15.
