| As you can see from the name of the course，we will be examining the history and present state of the American family. We will begin the semester by attempting to define the words,“marriage” and “family.” We will then look at how the American family has changed since Colonial times. When we deal with the present-day family，we will be concerned with the crises it faces：divorce，child abuse，remarriage，etc. |

| The final grade： midterm test 50％ final test 50％ Please note that both of these tests will be closed-book（no notes，etc．allowed)．I will give you a list of review questions one week before the test. l will take the test questions from this list. Please note that this class will be conducted in English. The lectures，handouts, and tests will be in English only． |
