During the first half of the term, class time will be spent on survival English, so that when you go abroad you will be able to function on a daily basis with a minimum of difficulty. The topics will include: Money, shopping, asking for and understanding directions, and using maps
The second half of the term will be devoted to a group research project. You will be placed in groups according to your host college. Each group will be expected to do an in-depth study of the area of their college. Each research project will include an explanation of the historyof the area, geography, and local attractions. It will also include a campus guide. You will present the results of your research to the whole class. |
