Introduction to Academic Writing |
授業の目標(講義概要) |
This third-year writing course focuses on introducing the students to college-level academic writing. Students will be taught how to use outside sources, which support and give credibility to their own opinions. They will learn how to develop an argument logically and organize those ideas in writing. They will also be taught proofreading skills and the importance of rewriting. |
授業計画 |
The first term will deal with the mechanics of English composition and the form of academic essays. Students will focus on organization of ideas and learn information gathering,drafting,revising,and editing.In the latter half of the first term students will learn methods of ensuring unity throughout their writing. The second term will focus on helping students develop and clarify their writing by the use of examples and supporting evidence.The second term will also deal with the importance of citing works and how to correctly write footnotes and bibliographies. Students will write a journal every week during both terms to help improve their writing fluency and expression of ideas. |
評価方法 |
Grades will be based on 65% regular assignments,25% additional assignments,and 10% journal. |
