Introduction to Research Paper Writing

授業の目標（講義概要）

The students are expected to write a short research paper following the guidelines set forth in the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. Copies of this book are on reserve in the library. Students will be expected to research a topic and discuss it intelligently on paper, using quotations from their reading to support and illustrate their statements.

授業計画

During the first part of the course, we will examine a model research paper. We will then practice writing the various parts of the paper. WEEK 1 Explanation of WS ll B course,Model research paper WEEKS 2-6 Outlining (MLA 1.8) Appropriate quotes,Quotations (MLA 2.7.2, 2.7.7, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4.7) Paraphrasing Introducing the quote or paraphrase,Transitions,Works Cited (MLA 1.5, Section 4, especially: 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6.1, 4.6.4, 4.6.13, 4.6.23, 4.7.5, 4.7.6.)
